Zocca Chestnut and Marrone Festival
On Sunday 11 October the Chestnut and Marrone Festival fills the historic centre of Zocca, in the Modena Apennines: among roasted chestnuts and chestnut specialities, a food truck or stand run by venues specialising in gluten-free food is expected.

Now in its 49th edition, the Zocca Chestnut and Marrone Festival is one of the most beloved autumn celebrations in the Modena Apennines. On the Sundays of October the streets of the historic centre fill up with food stalls, a crafts and second-hand market, music and entertainment for all ages. The star of the show is the Marrone di Zocca: roasted chestnuts cooked by the "spadellatori" over large braziers set up in the squares and served with mulled wine, along with castagnaccio, ciacci, borlenghi, crescentine and pasta dishes made with chestnut flour. On Sunday 11 October a food truck or stand run by venues specialising in gluten-free food is expected at the festival, so people with coeliac disease can also enjoy something warm among the stalls. The day is also a chance to visit the Chestnut and Borlengo Museum and the centuries-old chestnut tree, symbols of Zocca's bond with chestnut growing. Admission is free; food and drinks are paid for. The festival is organised by the Pro Loco Zocchese together with the local council, volunteer associations and local producers.
